POS plays 2 Oshawa tournaments in Oct to earn 2015 Provincial Qualifier

Oct. 18-19:
POS played their 2nd tourney in 2 weeks in Oshawa.  It was a cold weekend but that didn’t seem to affect the POS bats as they scored over 100 runs going a perfect 6-0 to win the tournament.  They had some close games against the Diggers and Half Cut with both games being tied late and POS taking the victory in their last at bat against the Diggers and an extra inning against Half Cut.  The finals against the Expos was a hitting clinic by both teams with POS taking a 10 run lead into the bottom of the 7th and holding off the surging Expos to take the win and championship 23-20.  It’s time to enjoy the off-season and everyone will be looking forward to another great year in the WMSPL and in the Provincials in Niagara Falls!  Game scores and players for this tourney below:

Another Solid Year

The Storm finished the season with a 27-10-1 record good enough for 2nd place, unfortunately we missed the money by a 1/2 game. Damn Falcon's!

The playoff's started well enough for the Storm with a solid victory over Greenthumb, but the same can't be said for game two against Coulas, as they got the better of us and never looked back as they stole our number 2 seed position. We had to play for our season against Hanet in the crossover game and try and make it to the quarter finals. We were able to succeed and move on to face the Falcon's. What can I say but Damn Falcon's! They crushed us on there way to the Finals. However in the Finals they learned how much it sucks to be crushed as they lost to the Devils 29 - 13.

Let's hope for a better playoff showing in 2015 for the Storm, but with being said, we sure had another great season in 2014.

Sorry for Not Updating the Website

I know it's been over a month since I last did an update, but I've been busy. Well there is one game left if We win and Falcons Tie or lose their last game against Xtreme we will win the Presidents division this year. All other scenario's mean that Falcon's will take the title. We are 26-10-1 going into the last game. We play at 5pm on Sunday, and Falcons play right after us at 6:30pm, depending on the outcome of our game we are planning on watching the Falcon game from the hill, so park in the upper lot for Sunday's game. If that game doesn't mean anything to us we are planning on going back to the pub.

A storm was brewing.

With a backdrop of spectacular lightning the Storm took on the A's. It was a back and forth game early on until Joey hit the first of his two bombs on the evening leading to a 7 run inning.  Later on a second mammoth blast would help to put up a 10 spot in the 6th inning. The defense played well in this one, and great hitting from all across the lineup, especially Greg with 4 timely hits helped keep the Storm in front.

Final Score: Storm 20 - A's 9

Yikes!

Storm looked for some redemption after their first game drubbing of the doubleheader. It looked to be a tight, defensive battle early on.  Storm had a homerun from Joey early on as well as a couple of timely hits.

However it was deja vu as it was the falcons this time with a monster inning.  Ten runs scored in the 6th, with three homeruns and some bobbling of the ball in the field.  The storm will look to erase this night from their  memory and come out of the gate strong on Wednesday.

Final Score: Falcons 21 - Storm 11

Ouch!

Storms four game winning streak comes crashing to a halt. The offense came out swinging in the first inning, with a 3 run homerun by Joey giving Storm 6 runs out of the gate.  Al would hit two bombs and kevin with one in the contest to add to the teams run total.

It went all downhill from there as Direct came back in the 5th inning to score a brutal 13 runs in the frame to put the game out of reach.  Costly errors and good hit placement did the Storm in.

Final Score: Direct 29 - Storm 17

6 Run sixth was the Difference

After a short journey to K1 the Storm played their second game of the night for an always exciting match-up against Xtreme. Xtreme came out with some strong bats, scoring 6 in the first 2 innings.  Storm came back with maybe the longest homerun of the season by Bob, and another monster jack from James. Storm kept chipping away with a fantastic 6th inning that saw production from top to bottom in the lineup to add 6 more needed insurance runs. With some great D, Storm managed to shut down xtreme and only allow them to score 7 runs total in the game.

Final Score: Storm 12 - Xtreme 7

Storm hold on for the victory

Storm started off their doubleheader with a great game against Hanet.
The offense was led by home runs from Bob, Brad and Duran.  Hanet had the chance to come back in the 7th, down by 5 and managed 3 runs before Storm on some great defense managed to hold on for the win.

Final Score: Storm 16 - Hanet 14

Snapped the losing streak!

The storm didn't want to make it a three loss streak and came out ready to hit. It looked like an ominous start after giving up 7 in the top of the first but the defense settled down nicely after that. The offense for the Storm took over with two big home runs by Bob, as well as solo shot by Jeff which led to his first cycle. Top to bottom everyone contributed with the bats which gave Jeff all the run support he would need for the rest of the game.

Final Score: Storm 25 - Greenthumb 12

The Ball was flying for the Storm

The Storm hit 3HR's that counted last night and 5 that were just long strikes. But with some solid pitching, good "D" a few timely miscues by Xtreme the Storm powered their way to there 6th victory of the season.

Final Score: Storm 16 - Xtreme 10

Seemed like deja vu, but better

Thanks to some timely hitting, great defense and awesome pitching, the Storm manages to get win number 5 on the season. Bob hit a clutch grand slam while Joey's two run shot helped give Mike all the run support he'd need. Going into the bottom of the 7th and up by 5 again, it looked like deja vu.  However tight defence shut the door on any possible comeback. The Storm looks to make it the start of a new winning streak Sunday vs Xtreme.

Final Score: Storm 13 - Hanet 9

All good things must come to and end.

The Storm's winning streak ends at four games.  Joey went deep and James went yard twice but it wasn't enough.  Jeff hit one over the fence but because of James hogging the long-balls it was just a strike.

Storm had a sizable lead going into the bottom of the 7th.  The moon must have been out in full force because the defense wasn't sharp at times leading to a loss for the Storm.

They'll look to start another streak Friday vs Hanet.

Final Score: Devils 18 - Storm 17

Still undefeated!

The storm had a great tournament on Saturday finishing 2nd place overall after losing to Xtreme. Seeking some redemption the Storm showed up to the park looking a lot sharper and focused this time around.  It must have been the Voss™. With home runs by Al, Bob and James the Storm took the lead and held onto it. We'll look to keep it going Wednesday.

Final Score: Storm 14 - Xtreme 9

Storm earn $100 for the kitty

The Storm make it to the championship final only to be destroyed by Xtreme 24-12 mainly due to one really bad 11 run inning.

Another solid win for the Storm!

Storm is firing on all cylinders early this season as they put up 27 runs for the second game in a row.

Duran hit his third homer in a row, and Joey and Mike added long balls of their own.  Lance tried to get into the action by having the longest hit of the night but it ended up being a ringing, 350 foot strikeout due to the new rules.

Jeff stole the show on the defensive side of the ball with several highlight reel plays at the hot corner.

Storm looks to take their momentum into the mid season tournament this weekend and hopefully keep it going.

Final Score: Storm 27 - Greenthumb 5

Bombs Away!!!

Thunder wasn't the only thing booming last night. An offensive explosion last night for both teams as over 10 long-balls were hit. Bradley showed up with a lot of talented new faces and matched power for power with the storm in a fantastic game. Al led the way with two bombs, followed by Joey, Bob and Duran with dingers of their own. Brad had the finest defensive play of the night with a fantastic catch to put out Dave. Up and down the lineup Storm hit well and it kept them out front to pull out the victory.

Final Score: Storm 27 - Bradley 22

POS goes 6-0 to capture title in Oshawa

POS started the 2014 season by playing the first of two SPN qualifiers in Oshawa over the weekend in the Fall Daze 3 (May 10-11) Tourney.  Playing in the Men’s E/35E+ Division POS started the weekend with a Saturday morning game at 9:45am on diamond #7 against the Oshawa Vikings.  The weather was sunny but breezy with a stiff wind coming off the lake all day.  POS scored early and solid defense helped lead the way to a 13-5 win.  Game 2 had POS taking on the Bombers at 12:15pm on #8 and with the wind blowing into the infield the scoring was lower with POS coming out on top 10-8.  Game 3 was a battle for first place in the B division against the Cardinals on #6 at 4:00pm.  POS scored runs early to take the lead and then with the Cardinals pitcher not being able to find the mat for strikes the chirping started as POS started taking the walks.  POS confirmed with the umpire that there wasn’t a new rule which stated players must swings at balls and after warnings to both teams from the umpire, cooler heads prevailed and POS cruised to a 10-6 victory.

Sunday’s quarter-final game had POS who finished 1st in the B division taking on the Warhawks who finished 4th in the A division.  The weather was still sunny and less breezy at the start of the game on #8 at 9:00am.  The defense once again was solid and POS ended up mercying the Warhawks 11-1 in 5 innings to advance onto the semi-final.  The semis were also on #8 at 11:30am against Beer Drum who had defeated the Cardinals in their quarter-final game.  POS started off slow stranding runners in scoring position in the first couple innings and trailing 5-0 after 3 until the bats came alive and tied the score up at 5’s in the 4th.  Teams traded a couple more runs in the next few innings which led to a 7-7 tie heading into POS’ bottom of the 7th and after getting the bases loaded with no one out Andrew singled to left centre to give POS their first lead of the game and the 8-7 win advancing them to the finals at 2:00pm on diamond #5.  The final was a re-match against the Bombers which was again a solid defensive effort for POS taking a 6-1 lead into the 6th and holding on for a 10-7 win and the championship!  It was a great weekend for POS going a perfect 6-0 and a great way to start off the 2014 season.  A summary of the games:

Saturday, 9:45am, Oshawa#7, POS-13 vs Oshawa Vikings-5
Saturday, 12:15pm, Oshawa#8, POS-10 vs Bombers-8
Saturday, 4:00pm, Oshawa#6, POS-10, vs Cardinals-6

Game one was a great Start

Although I wasn't there for the game it sounded like the Storm picked right up where we left off at the end of last season.
