Storm bats were hot vs Devils

Storm bats were hot last night as they faced the Devils. Every player was on fire as the Storm offense put the Devils through hell. Eleven players had four or more hits, including Joey and Kenny, who each went 6 for 6. Of course, Storm had a little bit of help from the Devils defense who were having a devil of a time fielding the ball. They even stopped the game mid-inning to have a spirited discussion on the purpose and use of the cut-off man.

On the other side of the ball, Storm defense was solid. The infielders gobbled up nearly every ground ball within reach, and nothing was falling within running distance of an outfielder. One of the highlights may have been Joey, Jeff and Duran catching a Devils runner in a rundown.

The only thing that didn’t go seemingly exactly according to plan was Bob’s pursuit of the cycle. He was held captive by the league home run rule for most of the game, as Storm was up two home runs by the second inning; however, Scott from the devils was very gracious, and hit a grand slam in the 5th, giving Bob the opportunity to hit a home run. The only problem now was that Bob was the last out of the previous inning, so Storm would have to bat through an entire twelve person order to get back to him. Fortunately for Bob, we like him, so we accommodated and batted through the order and got to him in the top of the 7th. Unfortunately for Bob, it seems that the Devils pitcher does not like him nearly as much as we do, as he put the first pitch off the front of the mat, the 2nd pitch off the corner of the mat, and the 3rd pitch Bob muscled through the infield for a single. Not the home run he needed for the cycle, but a five hit day is nothing to sneeze at.
