Storm gets straight A’s

Storm has clearly been inspired by the Tampa Bay Rays, as they decided to test out the opener strategy in Sunday’s night’s matchup against the A’s. With an all-star pitching duo of Al and Mike, the starting pitcher was… Jeff. Jeff gets most of his practice as a pitcher pitching batting practice to the high school girls he coaches, and seems to have thought he was pitching BP to the A’s as they launched three home runs in the first inning. This wasn’t a bad thing, however, as two of the home runs were solo shots, and the third was the final out of the first inning. Three home runs allowing only two runs is actually a pretty phenomenal accomplishment.

Storm didn’t feel much like batting in the bottom of the 1^st, and didn’t score a run. The A’s learned in the 2^nd inning, and didn’t hit any home run outs, but only scored two runs. Storm then realized that hitting is more fun than getting out, and started the inning with eight consecutive runners reaching base including a massive three-run bomb by Duran. This mean that Jeff was turning the ball over to the more experienced pitchers with Storm in the lead.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as the A’s put up five runs in the top of the 3rd including a 3-run blast by Lui, his second of the game to take a 9-6 lead. Storm wasn’t at all shaken by that and put up five of their own in the bottom of the 3^rd with a massive home run by Joey.

Mike blanked the A’s in the top of the fourth and Storm was able to extend their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the 4^th capped off by a two-run shot by Lance. In the 5^th ,the A’s brought the score to within two, but Storm put the game out of reach with a 6^th run 6^th.

It was an impressive day by both teams. Both teams hit well, and both teams played solid defense. Greg made a great catch bringing back his famous trademarked roll.
