A tie is kinda like kissing your cousin…unless it clinches first place

Thursday night’s game against Hanet was a fantastic game. Both teams hit the ball well and both teams played solid defense.

The first two innings were very tight and it was 3-3 at the end of those two frames. Hanet pulled ahead in the fourth with a five-run-inning. This gave them a 9-5 lead. Al came in and shut Hanet down in the 5th and 6th, and Storm entered the top of the seventh down 9-7.

Joey led off with a single, followed by Lance. Lance then asked for a courtesy and Duran came in. Al got out, but advanced the runners. Jeff came to the plate with the tying run on second and sent a pool cue shot through the infield scoring both runners and tying the game. Storm was then unable to put the go-ahead run across.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hanet’s lead-off batter grounded out to third. The next batter singled, but the following batter grounded to short for a force out and near double-play. The next batter hit a towering fly ball to right centre field. Bob thought the game needed more suspense as he tracked it, appeared to lose it, and then caught it stumbling backwards.

The game was a tie, which is not the most desirable outcome. However, had Hanet held on to win, they could have mathematically still caught Storm for first place (had Hanet won all their remaining games, and Storm lost all their remaining games). The tie means that Storm has officially clinched first place, and it means that everyone can make plans for Friday, September 15, because Storm will not be playing that night.

Turning Point: Al coming in and shutting Hanet down allowing 0 runs in three innings pithed.

  1. I dunno, I've kissed Jeff's cousin and it definitely felt like a win to me.
