Storm Win Last Game, Clinch Presidents Division !

The Storm played the final regular season game last night against Hanet Plastic. The Storm knew that had to have a victory in this one to clinch the President's Division trophy as Xtreme defeated The Falcon's prior to the game. With a huge crowd of Xtreme and Falcon's players on the Hill in left cheering on Hanet for the victory, the game started with Hanet jumping out to a quick 3 run lead but thanks to a huge 9 run second inning by the Storm, this game was put to rest fairly early. After 3 innings the Storm had a pretty good hold of this game and the left field cheering section was much quieter and smaller than at the outset. Good solid hitting up and down the lineup and the defense matched the offence on this night, resulting in a championship. A few other notes from this game, Bob tried to kill Jeff with a line drive down the first base line that he couldn't get out of the way of. Joey went hit-less for the first time in 114 games dating back to August 2010. Bob won the Storm batting title(.762) and HR(21) title. 29 Victories for the Storm this year most ever, and we tied our winning percentage from last year at .763. Great Season everyone, now lets bring home the Playoff Championship as well this year.

Final Score: Storm 16 - Hanet 5

POS at SPO & SPN Provincials

The SPO Provincials took place in London Aug.16-18 and POS entered the Masters 35E division with high hopes. Unfortunately things did not turn out as expected with POS ending the tourney going 0-3 with losses to The Mushballers 11-6 (Fri @ 4:45pm), the Mad Dogs 16-5 (Sat @ 10:15am), and Diamond Kings 17-6 (Sat @ 1:00pm) all on diamond #4 at the Southwest Complex. The group had a great time at the hotel with the pool so the weekend wasn’t all bad.

SPN Provincials were held in Niagara over the Labour Day long weekend (Aug.30-Sep.1) and POS was hoping for a better outcome in the Masters 35E division. Things did not start well for POS as they took on the Sultans Fri @ 2:30pm on PC#6 and were defeated 15-3 as well as losing Mark in the bottom of the first on a throw from RF to 3B which injured his arm and later was determined at the hospital as a tear in the elbow tendon. Game 2 had POS taking on Whisky John’s Bucs Sat @ 9:00am on PC#3 and the bats were alive in this one as POS evened their record at 1-1 with a 18-12 win. The final game of the round robin was at 12:00pm on PC#2 against the Knights and POS came back from an 11-5 deficit to take the win 16-13. After the round robin POS had a 2-1 (+2) record which had them tied for 2nd with the Town & Country A’s but the next tie-breaker (overall run differential) had the A’s at a -1 with POS at a -3 so that placed POS in 3rd place heading in Sunday’s quarterfinal matches. The 10:00am game on PC#6 was against the Chiefs who finished 2nd in the other division and unfortunately the POS bats were silent most of the game with some of the harder hits being caught by the Chiefs’ good defensive plays…in the end POS was no match for the Chiefs losing 12-1. On a positive note, this was the best finish by POS at the Provincials finishing 7th so they’ll be looking to improve on that in 2014! A couple of great weekends were had by all of the POS players and families.

POS Rosters for the Provinicals:

Wayne Cosby (Greenthumb) – Coach/Sub (Niagara)

Only one more game left

It was an offensive explosion for Joey, going 3/3 with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI. The storm hit well top to bottom and played tight defence for most of the game. The A's made it very close in the bottom of the 7th seemingly finding every gap on the field. However the storm was rooted on by their own personal group of cheerleaders which helped motivate them to pull out the squeaker of a win.

Final Score: Storm 10 - A's 9

Storm two games away from division champs!

It's not often the Storm wins with only hitting one homerun, but they did it tonight.  Joey hit a monster opposite bomb that went off the upper part of the light pole.  Lance had two clutch doubles and the team as a whole hit very well. Bradley made it interesting, hitting the ball very hard with 3 home runs and two base hits off the black top of the fence.  More excellent storm defense stranded base runners often and helped hold down the lead.  The storm now is in control of their own dynasty and just have to win the next two games to take the presidents trophy.

Final Score: Storm 15 - Bradley 10

Another Stormy Xtreme Slugfest!

As the teams took the fields the skies opened up and the rain came down.  It was another exciting game as it was probably the most important game of the regular season for these two teams.  The winner would have a leg up on winning the division.
It was a back and forth slugging affair.  Joey hit two clutch homeuns, Al knocked one out, Lance hit a line drive out to left, and the most clutch homerun of the day was a three run no doubter by leadoff man Jeff.
Xtreme was down 3 in the bottom of the 7th and after a leadoff walk it looked like deja vu.  The defense held on thanks to a great catch by Lance and the Storm held on for the important victory.

Final Score: Storm 14 - Xtreme 11

Make it another Storm Win !

Greenthumb came our scoring early making it a tight game from the get go.  The storm tightened up their D though and managed to hold Greenthumb to 9 runs.  Two big homers by Lance as well as a an absolute Bomb by Joey helped the Storm pull ahead with their scoring.  The Storm hit well top to bottom with everyone notching at least two hits.  A great team win for the Storm as they look to get into playoff shape.

Final Score: Storm 19 - Greenthumb 8

Monday, August 19, 2013

Exciting game as always

The Falcons started off in the first inning scoring five big runs and it looked like it was going to be one of those slug-fests.   The storm slowed down the scoring and added some of their own.  The  Storm were down in the top of the 7th and ended up scoring 5 runs to pull ahead by 1.  The falcons walked Joey to face Lance, who cracked a clutch 3 run home-run which put the Storm ahead of the Falcons by one. But the falcons walked it off in the bottom of the 7th by Sean.

Final Score: Falcons 10 - Storm 9

Doubleheader starts with a W!

The game started with a lead off home-run by the Devils but they were quickly stifled by fantastic storm defense for the first five innings.  The storm slowly piled on some runs, headed by a nice home-run by Al.  In the bottom of the fifth the Devils rallied back and scored five of their own followed by 3 in the 6th inning making the game a close one.  The Storm held though and won the game 13-9.

Final Score: Storm 13 - Devils 9

A Case of the Monday's

The storm lose their second in a three game span. The usual tight defense fell apart as the bone crushers had a big inning breaking the game open. The lone  bright spot was bob with two home runs and hitting for the cycle. This puts him in a tie for the league lead in home-runs at 20.

Final Score: Coulas 17 - Storm 12

A Game and a pool party!

The defense came out to play today and were their usual miserly selves holding the Rebels to one run.  Bob and Joey went back to back in the first inning and set the pace for the Storm to score 11 runs.  It was a quick game as the storm we're hungry not only for the win to get back on track but for the BBQ at Dave's.  Great cooking James!

Final Score: Storm 11 - Rebels 1

Slopitch Softball game...or home-run derby?

This was one of the wildest games of the year.  In a complete 180 from the first game of the doubleheader this one was a slug-fest.  Xtreme had their hitting shoes on and were up to the task matching the Storm homer for homer.  Joey slugged three homers and had 8 rbi's but it still wasn't enough.   In the end the Storm couldn't hold on to the lead and lost via a walk-off home run.

Actual Final Score: Xtreme 27 - Storm 26

Tight defence by both teams!

It was a well played, well pitched game from the get go by both teams.  The scoring was kept down in what seemed more like a baseball game than a softball game.  In the end the storm managed to drive in 5 runs which proved to be enough to hold on.

Final Score: Storm 5 - Mayhem 3

Friday, August 9, 2013

The streak starts again!

Okay it's only one game but the Storm is back to their winning ways.  The team shook off some rust in the first inning giving up four runs but slowly climbed their way back.  Bob and Joey hit homeruns, including an absolutely bomb by the latter and Lance hit a bases clearing double to put the Storm on top.  The defense tightened back up and it was smooth sailing after that.

Final Score: Storm 14 - Direct Elevator 8

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

All good things must End!!

"The bat's went ice cold as the storm lost a close one against Mayhem.  A few bloop hits and a grand slam was enough for Mayhem to take the lead and hold on to it as their infield played great defense.  The Storm look to start a new streak next week.

Final Score: Mayhem 8 - Storm 4

“D” stands for Dumb idea

POS headed to Uxbridge for the Diamond Duster tournament on the weekend wanting to play in the Master’s division but found out that there weren’t enough teams and on top of that was bumped up to the “D” division of REC since they won the REC “E” tourney last year.
POS struggled to match the D level talent in its first 3 round robin games on Saturday by going 0-3 with a minus 30 record.  The first 10-run mercy game had POS losing to the Barrie Athletics in 5 innings at HQ on BON E in the 9:05am game.  The second 10-run mercy was a 4 inning affair against High Voltage (from Peterborough) on BET 1 in the 12:20pm match.  The third game was another 10-run loss but POS was able to play their first full D level game as Havoc (from Belleville) won the 2:20pm game on BET 2.  The Saturday evening match at 5:45pm on PPA 2 (Port Perry Arena) had POS (ranked 20 out of 20 teams after the 3 RR games) taking on the Ajax Beermen in the 19vs20 game to set the seeding for the Sunday elimination games.  POS had a solid game offensively and defensively as they racked up their first ever D level win by a score of 17-9 and moved up the standings…finishing the RR games with a 1-3 record.
Sunday morning had POS taking on another 1-3 team to set the bottom seeds with the top 12 teams getting a bye.  In that 10am game on BET 1, POS was taking on Twisted (from Oshawa) who was very similar looking to the Triple Threat team they played a few weeks ago in Oshawa.  Like that game a couple weeks ago POS had their bats going and solid defense helped them get the 13-3 mercy victory.  With that victory POS had little time to celebrate as the 11:05am game was about to start on BET 1 against one of the top teams in the Dirt Dawgs (from Uxbridge).  POS had an early lead which quickly vanished with the hitting by the Dawgs but POS showed some resilience being forced to score runs in the 5th and 6th to avoid the mercy loss and ended up losing by a score of 27-20 to end the POS D level experience.
Next up for POS will be the SPO Provincials in London on August 16-18.

POS Roster for the Tournament:

Make it a Bakers Dozen !!!

The Cavalry arrived just in time for the game as Bob and Joey made an early exit from their tournament.  The game looked to be a close one until it was blown open with home runs by Lance and Bob. More tight defense and great pitching locked up the lead as the Storm cruised to victory.

The Storm look to continue their franchise high winning streak tomorrow against the Mayhem.

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Make it a Dozen!

The bats kept going tonight as everyone seemed to be hitting and finding holes. James got redemption for his robbery and hit a  mammoth home run to center. The storm look to make it a bakers dozen on Sunday.

Final Score: Storm 27 - A's 8

Monday, July 22, 2013

Solid victory by the Storm

The bats were Xtremely efficient tonight. With booming home runs by Lance and Joey the offense was running on full cylinders. James would have been the third but was robbed by a great catch in center by Derek going over the fence to bring it back.   The storm make it eleven straight and look to go for a dozen tomorrow night against the A's.

Final Score: Storm 17 - Xtreme 8

Mother Nature wins again

Mother Nature once again reared her ugly head last night washing away our double header makeup games against Mayhem and Xtreme. It would appear that these two games were not meant to be. Maybe third time will be the charm.

Thursday, July 18, 2013

The bats come alive

As the weather cooled down the bats woke up.  The team reloaded with Fred as James had a plane to catch. Timely home runs by Lance, Al and Joey helped fill the run column.  Joey grounded into a double play but made up for it with stellar defense.  This marks 10 straight wins for the Storm!"

Final Score: Storm 13 - Rebels 7

Flashing the leather

The hottest game of the year stifled the bats of both teams.  Excellent defense and timely hitting gave Storm the edge in the first game of the double header.  The storm looking to the next game to make it an even 10 wins in a row. Also Jeff was taken out by a Sniper Donkey.

Final Score: Storm 5 - Direct 1

POS loses in Final of SPO tourney in Oshawa

Having got their Provincial qualifier for London in last month’s SPO tourney, POS was looking to get some more practice in with the 2nd qualifier last weekend.  The weather forecast was hot and sunny all weekend which was a change to the previous 2 wet tourneys POS had played in.  To start the Saturday games POS took on a familiar rival in the Silverbacks on diamond #6 at 8:30am.  POS jumped out to an early lead and with solid defense cruised to an 11-4 win.  The 2nd game was against The Bulldogs at 11:00am on #2 and after seeing the hitting by The Bulldogs through the order POS decided to try the Xtreme Rover outfield plan and it messed with the hitters allowing only 3 runs to be scored while POS put up 16 for the win.  The 3rd game on Saturday had the two 2-0 teams playing at 2:45pm on #2 to determine who will be the #1 seed heading into Sunday’s elimination games.  POS was taking on the Rats who had easily won their first 2 games scoring 20+ runs in each game.  The game became heated at times with the Rats not liking the game chatter by Todd behind the plate and after a few hits by POS up the middle the Rats pitcher accused POS for intentionally hitting it there.  That brought a confrontation at home plate the following inning as the Rats pitcher called his shot to hit it back up the middle while standing between Todd and Jeff in the batter’s box…he did hit it back to Hatt on the mound with 2 or 3 hops which was easily handled for the out.  The final was 7-3 for the Rats as they had one better inning than POS.
Sunday’s elimination games had POS taking on the 3rd place team (Triple Threat) from the other group who had a familiar face with Josh playing LF…many of the POS players hadn’t seen Josh since he played in Uxbridge with them last year.  The 9:00am game on #2 had POS continue with some timely hits and solid defense to take this one by a score of 16-4.  The semi-final game at 11:45am on #1 had POS taking on The Dodgers who were the 1st place finisher in the other group going 3-0 on Saturday.  During the early innings POS capitalized on some defensive mishaps by The Dodgers and took this one by a score of 15-5.  So, the final was set with POS taking on the Rats again at 2:15pm on #2 as they cruised to the final with mercy wins in both their Sunday games.  Not sure what both teams expected in this one following the heated match from Saturday but cooler heads prevailed and it was another low scoring game between the 2 teams.  POS turned a triple play in the bottom of the 6th which unfortunately wasn’t enough to ignite the offense in the top of the 7th for the comeback as POS lost to the Rats by a score of 6-3.
POS finished the weekend with a 4-2 record, 64 runs for and 29 runs against.  Next up for SPO tourneys and POS will be the Provincials in London on August 16-18.  Prior to that POS will have one final tune-up in the Diamond Duster at the end of July in Uxbridge.

POS Roster for the Tournament:
George Douma (A’s) – Coach/Sub
Todd Boisvert (Greenthumb)
David Hatt (Greenthumb)
Bob Peppler (Storm)
Joey Pilkey (Storm)

Very efficient game

It was easily the hottest day of the year on Sunday, and with a cool wet pool on the near horizon, it took less than an hour to play Hanet. It was a great game with good defense and just enough offence to take the victory.

Final Score: Storm 6 - Hanet 3

7 win's in a row

Solid game played last night, good sound defense and timely hitting made for a great result.

Final Score: Storm 14 - Rebels 3

Pool Party following Sunday's game

Remember that right after our game on Sunday evening, Dave will be hosting our first of two family pool party's.

It will be our 1st time enjoying our rookie, James's BBQing skills. I hope he can cook or we can send him back to the draft!

Another come from behind victory!

I wasn't at the game last night but from an eyewitness account it was a nice result on a tough fielding night. Mayhem was up by 3 runs heading into the bottom of the 7th. That's when the Storm bats came to life and scored 4 runs to take the victory.

Final Score: Storm 10 - Mayhem 9

Monday, July 8, 2013

A huge comeback victory

The Falcons came ready to play this game as they built up an impressive 10 run lead after only 3 innings. But then the Storm bats came alive and answered with a 9 run 4th followed by a 3 run 5th on way to the victory, as the Falcons could not score anymore runs.

Final Score: Storm 13 - Falcons 10

Solid "D" is the difference

The Devils surged out to an early lead, but the Storm kept coming. A solid 3rd and 4th innings powered the Storm to an important victory in game one of our Sunday night double header.

Final Score: Storm 12 - Devils 4

Friday, July 5, 2013

Well rounded game by the Storm

The Storm played an excellent game on Wednesday night, the bat's showed up in force as did the defense allowing only 4 runs. The 5 HR game was the most the Storm hit this year, hopefully it's a sign that the Storm power is coming around. Not counting Bob who is now at 12 HR's for the year just two off the league lead.

Final Score: Storm 20 - Bradley 4

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Just what the doctor ordered!

The chance was there for the Storm to take advantage of a Greenthumb team that is not at it's best at the moment. And that is exactly what the Storm did. Everyone had at least a hit and in many cases lots of them. This one was never in doubt as Greenthumb was just not able to match the offence on this night.

Final Score: Storm 22 - Greenthumb 3

The Bats came back

A much better team effort propelled the Storm to a solid victory over Coulas.

Final Score:
Storm 16 - Coulas 10

Xtreme out gun the Storm !

The Storm Bat's went quiet for this game, allowing Xtreme to take the victory.

POS plays back-to-back weekends in Oshawa

POS headed to Oshawa on June 15-16 looking for their SPO Provincial qualifier for London.  POS started the weekend with a Saturday 9:45am game against the Durham Cardinals and took that one 17-12.  The second and third games were both mercy wins for POS with a 14-1 and 18-4 scores against L’Original and The Dodgers respectively in the 12:15pm and 2:45pm timeslots.  All 3 round robin games were played on diamond #2.  At the end of the day POS was a perfect 3-0 and had the 2nd overall seed due to the run differential tie-breaker.  After a perfect weather Saturday, Sunday was a different story with pouring rain and many mini-lakes in the infields on the diamonds along with very slippery outfields.  The quarter-final matchup at 9:45am on #6 had POS taking on the Durham Cardinals again who provided the toughest challenge in the Saturday matches.  The game was back and forth with both teams taking the lead and POS was trailing 9-8 heading into the bottom of the last inning.  POS was able to score the tying run and also managed to load the bases giving Ash the opportunity to single in the winning run for the 10-9 win.  The semis at 12:15pm on #4 had POS taking on the RamRods and the game started off in the first inning with a scary moment as Paul going full out for a gapper in the OF hit the fence…he suffered a gash under his eye and bruised knees but was able to return an inning later and never missed an AB!  The RamRods were hitting well and jumped out to a 15-5 lead after 4 innings…POS then started to find their bats and controlled the remainder of the game out-scoring the RamRods 8-1 but came up short losing 16-13.  POS got their qualifier for London and will play their 2nd SPO qualifier on July 13-14 in Oshawa.

POS Roster for the Tournament:

The following weekend, June 22-23 had POS back in Oshawa for their 2nd SPN qualifier for Niagara.  This weekend was the replacement for the Mother’s Day SPN tourney which POS wasn’t able to get enough guys for.  Saturday was a stormy day with thunder storms in the area.  The first game for POS was a noon start on #2 against Dead Last which had the heaviest rain happening before/during this game.  POS came out hitting and with solid defense which included a triple-play they were able to get a 13-1 mercy win giving some extra time to dry before the next game.  The second and third games did not have the same outcome for POS as some timely hits were missed giving POS two 1-run losses against Fully Loaded and There’s Always Time by scores of 13-12 and 8-7 respectively on #2 (2:30pm) and #4 (3:45pm).  With a 1-2 record it didn’t look promising for Playing On Sunday but with some other teams having worse records POS ended up with the 3rd seed out of the 6 teams in their pool.  Sunday morning at 9:30am had POS taking on MIA in the quarter-final game on #1.  POS jumped out to an early lead and MIA was able tie it up after being shutout the first couple of innings.  POS bats went silent as MIA was able to take the lead and came away with a 13-7 victory.  Next up for POS and SPN is the Provincials on Labour Day weekend in Niagara Falls.

Game two better than one!

In the second game of the doubleheader last night, the Storm did a better job of holding a lead. Thanks in a very large part to Bob who hammered two 3 run HR's.

Final Score: Storm 16 to Rebels 7

Just out of reach

Last night was one of those games that you will look back on and say, that was our game and we let it slip away. After 3 innings the Storm had a 9 to 0 lead but in the 4th, Hanet roared back with 8 of there own. The Storm did get a couple of more but could not hold on, as in the bottom of the 7th inning, Hanet was able to score two runes for the victory.

Final Score: Hanet 11 to Storm 10

The Invisible man shows his face

For the first time this year, our elusive new player, James was finally able to make his debut with the Storm, as neither Mother Nature or his job kept him from the game. It was a low scoring affair as both pitchers and a solid defense played a strong role, but thanks to a good start, the Storm was able to prevail over the A's.

Final Score: Storm 8 vs. A's 3

Sunday, June 2, 2013

Mother Nature back out in front

For the fifth time this short season, Mother Nature has washed away another perfectly good Sunday evening of ball. This time it was because of unplayable diamond conditions. No rain at the time of the game but way too much for the hours leading up to the game. We'll keep our fingers crossed and try again tomorrow night against the A's.

Final Score - Mother Nature 5 vs Storm 4

Saturday, June 1, 2013

Storm come from behind to take the victory!!

On a hot and sticky night with the threat of rain or worse, the Storm and Hanet played a makeup game. It was a back and forth affair but in the end thanks to a two out two on single by Kevin, the Storm come from one run down in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the victory.

Final Score: Storm 11 and Hanet 10

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Mother Nature 4, Storm 3

The Sky's opened up again for a few hours prior to our game and flooded the fields once again. Better luck on Friday night hopefully.

Important Schedule Update !!!

Game one of our scheduled season opening doubleheader games has now been rescheduled to:

Friday May 31st @ 9:30pm on K2 vs. Hanet

The Storm above 500 again

Coming off the WMSPL Tournament many of the Storm players were sore or in pain. Just ask Joey's boys how they are. But it appears that the tournament was a good wake-up call for the Storms bats to come alive, and thanks to a 10 run 6th inning the Storm powered past the Devils to take this one 13 to 4.

Storm / Direct Elevator win Consolation Final in WMSPL Tournament

On a cool and most of the time cold windy weekend in May, The Storm / Direct Elevator paired up to win the consolation Final of the 2013 WMSPL Tournament. With cold wind gusts of up to 50km/hr blowing in all weekend from left center it took most of our bats out of play. But thanks to a lot of opposite field hitting, The Storm/Direct team were able to win 2 of four games and the second victory propelled them into the consolation final against the Devils/Rebel team. Who were too depleted after losing a few players to a wedding and other obligations to field a team for the final, therefore the Storm / Direct Elevator took the game in forfeit. Tournament Batting Statistics are up on Statleaders.com
