Early Fireworks Fizzle as Storm Shut Down Expos for Narrow Win

The Expos started the game strong with a pair of walks, followed by a double and Brad’s league-leading 22nd home run. Four batters into the game and the Expos had four runs. Storm responded well with four of their own capped off by a three-run dinger by Bob.

The Expos kept the pressure on Storm in the second with a five run second that featured a pair of home runs by Taylor and Ty as well as a home run out (that is allegedly by the home run outs league leader, but statisticians are still checking on that!). Storm dropped a big fat goose egg in the second and trailed 9-4 going into the 3rd.

The 3rd and 4th saw a shift in power, as the Expos were only able to put up a single in each inning, and Storm threw some crooked numbers on the board. They scored four runs in the 3rd on some small ball with four singles, a double, and a pair of sacrifice flies. Then in the 4th they scored five runs on a bunch of singles and a triple by Duran. That put Storm up 13-11.

Then the tide of the game shifted again and…nobody scored for the rest of the game. Not only was there no scoring in the final two and a half innings, but only 16 batters came to the plate. That’s only one more than the minimum 15. Not sure if everyone was just tired at the end of a doubleheader, but those final frames flew by and the game was over at 10:38 allowing time for an extra beer before people went home.

• Impact: He provided the most power in the lineup, hitting the game's only home run and leading all players with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs.

2. Joey

• Impact: He reached base safely in every plate appearance, finishing with a perfect 1.000 Batting Average and a massive 1.667 Slugging Percentage.

3. Lance

• Impact: He came through with a critical extra-base hit, driving in 2 runs to maximize his team's offensive output.

The Forecast Was Wrong: Expos Blown Away by the Storms Offense

The Expos might want to check the weather radar, because they just got absolutely leveled by a category-five offensive tempest. The Storm blew into town and unleashed a 29-hit barrage, cruising to a ridiculous 19-9 victory in a game that felt more like a slow-pitch home run derby than a tightly contested matchup.

The Storm  just started hammering hits right out of the gate. They hung six-spots on the board in both the first and second innings, leaving the Expos' looking for a place to hide. By the time the dust settled on the second frame, it was already a 12-5 score.

While the Expos did their best to answer early, their offense eventually ran out of gas. Meanwhile, the Storm kept pouring it on. Sam acted as the primary lightning rod, driving in a whopping 5 RBIs with a massive and well timed home run. Not to be outdone, Brad (4-for-4) and Lance (3-for-3) treated the field like a batting cage, posting completely flawless afternoons. Duran and Mills also joined the party, launching absolute missiles of their own to clear the fences.

A desperate, three-run garbage-time rally by the Expos in the 7th was nothing but a light drizzle at the end of a catastrophic forecast. 

Final score: Storm 19, Expos 9. Someone grab a mop.

• The Power Hitters: Sam, Duran and Mills each launched 1 home run. Sam served as the primary engine of the offense, racking up a game-high 5 RBIs.
• The Perfectionists: Brad went a flawless 4-for-4 at the plate with 3 runs scored, while Lance went a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, both finishing with perfect 1.000 batting averages.
• Consistent Contact: Rene, Greg, and Brian all put together stellar 3-for-4 hitting performances to keep the bases loaded throughout the day.

Storm unloads on Expos

The Storm absolutely brought the thunder in this one, turning the baseball field into a metaphorical slip-and-slide for The Expos. While the Expos tried to keep things interesting with a respectable 4-run burst in the 5th, the Storm responded by putting up a massive 10-spot in the 6th, essentially deciding that "mercy" wasn't in their vocabulary today.

Game Summary: The Defensive Optional Invitational

In a game where "pitching" was clearly more of a suggestion than a requirement, Storm absolutely dismantled The Expos with a final score of 29-10.

The Expos actually started with a pulse, putting up 3 runs in the first inning. Unfortunately, Storm responded by treating the baseball like a personal grievance, racking up 18 runs in the first three innings alone. By the time the 6th inning rolled around, Storm decided that 19 runs wasn't quite enough of a cushion and hung a casual 10-spot on the scoreboard just to be safe.

Player Highlights (or Lowlights):

• Joey and Bob: These two were clearly playing a different game, combining for 6 runs and 8 RBIs. 
• Rene: Went 4-for-4 and scored 4 times. Rene was basically living on the basepaths; the Expos should have started charging him rent.
• Mills: He managed to strike out and have a sacrifice in the same game he hit a Grand Slam HR, proving that you can indeed do it all.
• The Expos Pitching Staff: Currently in witness protection.
