Storm solid against Greenthumb

Storm played another all around good game against Greenthumb. The defense was solid and the batting was good from top to bottom. Storm scored in every inning except the second, and score multiple runs in four out of six innings. Every player got at least one hit and every player got at least one run or an RBI, so every player made a significant contribution to the offense. The only player who “struggled” was Bob, who had a frustrating night. He hit a couple of very hard balls, but Greenthumb made some nice plays against him. Storm is now off until Monday, when they start a run of nine games in the final ten days of the season, including four doubleheaders.

Notable Boxscores:
Joey Pilkey has now at least a hit in his 100th consecutive game!
Joey – 3/4, 4 runs, 1 RBI
Lance – 5/5, 3 runs
Al – 4/4, 3 runs, 4 RBI
Jeff – 3/4, 3 runs 2 RBI

Mike – 3/3, 2RBI

HR's: None

Storm solid against A's

Storm started strong with a leadoff homerun from Bob and a four-run first. They maintained control and never really had any stumbling blocks along the way.

Defensively, Storm was strong, with nearly every ball that should have been an out becoming an out. Sometimes they weren’t caught they way you would expect, like a ball hit to left field that turned the left fielder around to be bailed out by James flying over from left-centre to make the catch. Al also pitched a gem, often bouncing balls right off the side of the board causing one opponent to say, “you’re going to break the board if you keep doing that!”

Offensively Storm was strong scoring 21 runs with four home runs by four different players Bob, Joey, Jeff and Lance.

Notable Boxscores:
Bob – 4/4, HR, 3 RBI, 4 runs
Joey – 4/4, HR, 4 RBI, 4 runs
Lance – 3 /4, HR. 6 RBI, 2 runs

Brian – 3/3, 2 runs (though he didn’t actually score either of them himself!)

HR's: Joey (21), Lance (14), Bob (13), Jeff (2)

Storm returns to form against Sports Illustrated Play

After a very disappointing offensive output on Sunday (6 runs), Storm returned to form on Monday night against Sports Illustrated scoring 23 runs for a 23-14 victory.

The game started well, as Storm scored 6 runs in the first inning (as many as the previous game). Five of those runs came with two outs. In the 2nd, Lance hit a big three-run homerun, and by the end of the 3rd, Storm led 16-4 and never really looked back.

When you win, it’s easier to laugh about things, so James’s at bat in which he took a mighty swing and missed the ball by three feet for strike two, and then watched strike three hit the board, is a funny little anecdote.

Dave swung a big bat, or was at the very least opportunistic, as he drove in 6 runs. Three of those came on sacrifice flies, including a 2 RBI sac fly on which Brad managed to score from 2nd.

Notable Stats:
Dave – 1 HR, 6 RBI
Lance – 1 HR, 3 RBI

Every player in the lineup recorded at least 1 hit. Every player but one, scored at least 1 run, and nine different players got RBI’s. It was a well-rounded offensive attack.

Storm bats take vacation

On a night when multiple Storm players returned from vacation to play, Storm bats took a vacation as Storm was only able to come up with 6 runs. This is particularly frustrating given that the team had scored 29, 28 and 25 runs in their last three games. In each of those games they had innings with more than 6 runs. Broadway played a great game. They hit well and made some nice defensive plays to keep Storm off the board for most of the game.

Notable Boxscore: Lance – 3/3 HR, 3 RBI

Storm victorious over Coulas

Bob showed up to the game with a belly full of leftover burgers and one thing on his mind....redemption.

Doing what he does best he led the game off with a Solo homerun.

Through the first 4 frames it was a tight, back and forth game.  With Rob from Coulas hitting two out and Bob hitting a homerun with actual runners on.

Storm then got in their groove and started scoring a bunch with 9 in the 5th frame.

The sixth inning saw Bob hit his third homerun of the night and started putting the game out of reach.

Brian golfed one out in the 7th for a 3 run shot to cap a fine offensive night for the whole team. Final 29 to 7.

Storm over Xtreme

It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon for Softball.  The team was looking forward to a competitive game against Xtreme before heading out to the annual Storm BBQ.

The team brought their A-game from the start and wanted to focus on the game before thinking about food.  Everyone that is except for Bob.

After hitting a Han Solo to open the game up, he was seen sitting on the bench thinking of what he wanted to put on his burger at the BBQ.  That hit would be his last of the game and awarded him the honor of donning the apron over the BBQ.

The first inning saw Derek hit a homer for Xtreme, putting them out to a 2-0 lead.  Storm roared back in the bottom with 3 Bob, Joey and Al hitting them out. Final score Storm 28, Xtreme 9.

Those would be the last dingers of the day but Storm kept their foot on the gas, scoring in every inning but one.   The team hit well from top to bottom....except for the BBQer.

The burgers were delicious...thanks Bob!

Lightning Storm beats The Storm's Seven, +1

With the Storm down 8 guys heading into Friday night's doubleheader they called on Broadway's Shawn to help out.  Heading into the bottom of the 3rd against Hanet the lightning started getting closer and with game #2 having been defaulted by SI Play the teams decided to take a 20 minute break.  Unfortunately the lightning continued with rain and the radar showed no signs of letting up for the remainder of the night. Make it 2 more rainouts for Storm. We should've expected the rainout since Storm was playing Hanet and that now makes 1 game played between the teams and 6 games rained out!

The remaining Eight, get the job done!

With the Storm down 7 guys for this game, they were only able to field 8 players, including all three of the regular pitching staff off sunning themselves is some exotic locale (or not). The remaining eight were able to get the victory over Surge. Behind a strong pitching performance from deep in the bull-pen Kevin pitched a fantastic game, he started a little slow but then found the plate and his rhythm and allowed only 9 runs. The fielding was there as well, as we were down to only three outfields (Bob(C), Duran(L), and Kenny(R) all had to cover a lot of ground and each guy made some great running catches, The in-field did a great job as well including Brad's first unassisted double play. But the real story of this game was at the plate. Every player scored, and all but one had RBI's. Duran had a monster night with not one, but two inside the park home-runs!!! and had 8 RBI's. The Storm played well and earned their 19th victory of the season scoring 25 runs.
