A's even up series as the Storm stumbles in the 7th

In one of the closest and most tightly contested games of the season, Storm fell a little short losing to the A’s 16-12.

The game was close throughout its entirety. At the end of the 2^nd, it was 6-5. At the end of the 5^th, the A’s had taken a 10-5 lead, but in the top of the 6^th Storm scored 7 to take a 12-10 lead. Unfortunately, Storm gave it right back in the bottom of the 6^th letting the A’s take a 16-12 lead.

In the top of the 7^th, Storm was down four, but had four home runs to use, so things looked promising; however, Storm was unable to score any runs, and lost for the second time this year.

Special Note:

An occurrence as rare as Halley’s comet appeared on Sunday. There was no Jo(e)y in Stormville, for mighty Pilkey STRUCK OUT! It was actually his eighth strikeout since Storm started recording these things in 2004. This means he strikes out once every 198 at bats. That’s not nearly as impressive as Bob’s one strikeout per 484 at bats, so it’ll be bigger news if Bob Ks.

Storm open home & home series with a win

A strong first inning offensively and solid defense throughout the game kept Storm ahead of the A’s. Storm did not allow a multiple run inning against until the fourth inning, when the A’s were allowed to plate three. Only twice in the game did the A’s get multiple runs, and Storm kept the A’s completely off the scoreboard in four innings.

Storm also had some solid batting when it mattered. Storm put up multi-run innings three times, including the first inning, and with that were able to hold on to the lead throughout the game.

Of Note:

Joey hit a home run out (for what is believed to be the first time?)

Kenny seems to be playing to make it into the writeups these days. His reluctance to swing the bat continued until he was in a 3-0 count, at which point he decided to swing (and ground out).

Storm slugs past Greenthumb

It looked like it was going to be a close game. After two innings, it was 4-3 Greenthumb. Then, Storm exploded for a fifteen run 3^rd inning and never looked back. Joey and Al hit homeruns, and most of the lineup contributed a lot of solid singles and doubles as Storm was able to keep moving the order.

Some highlights (which are only highlights because Storm won):

Brad got off early as a courtesy runner and left Storm completely unsatisfied in the inning. When asked about it he said, “It reminded me of my honeymoon.” Of note on this play, someone was actually called out for leading off. League statisticians are searching the archives to see if this has ever happened before.

Also, Kenny struck out. Looking. At ALL THREE PITCHES. Then he walked on his next at-bat. People were wondering if he planned to swing the bat.

Rained out Again!

Unbelievable, but the town pulled the permits because of last nights rain!

4th game cancelled, and counting.

Storm Storms Back

Storm got off to a rough start as Broadway scored seven runs while Storm had recorded only one out, and eight runs total in the first inning. It was a combination of some well-placed hits and some less than stellar defense.

Storm didn’t let it get them down as they stormed back to score six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Then, in the bottom of the 3^rd, a grand slam by Jeff, put them up, and they didn’t look back after that. The defense was tight the rest of the game, and the Storm was able to hold on to a 13-12 lead going into the bottom of the 5^th. They scored two in the bottom of the 5^th and then exploded for seven in the sixth before the new time rule came into effect, and the game ended rather abruptly.

Brad joined the home run out club with his first of the season!
