Falcons fly through Storm like it’s a sunny day!

The game didn’t start off well. Jeff walked the first two batters. Thankfully the Falcons ran into some trouble on the bases as Jeremy started for home, then changed his mind when Duran got the ball in quickly, but was thrown out coming back to third. Storm managed to get out of the inning giving up only two.

In the bottom of the first, Duran led off with a solo homerun. Rene managed to keep it in the park and hit a double, and Storm took a 3-2 lead. They would have to enjoy it, because it would be their only lead of the game.

In the third inning, Duran’s defense got put to the test. He tracked two fly balls and got to them, only to have them both bounce off his glove and fall to the ground. In the bottom of the inning, Lance was paying more attention to figuring out which bat was Rene’s (also known as Lance’s homer bat) than he was to the game, so he didn’t notice Joey hitting a home run putting Storm up two home runs. Lance then mashed a ball way out of the park and looked absolutely incredulous when the umpire told him he was out. Al then grounded into a questionable doubleplay as it was close, but the ump had moved all the way up the line.

In the fourth there was a fly ball between first and second. Brad called the ball. Who could blame him? Duran was playing second and after his adventure in the outfield the previous inning wanted nothing to do with fly balls. But then Brad pulled a Duran and dropped it. The runner, though, assumed that it would be caught and was still on first, so Brad was able to kick and fumble the ball to second before the runner got there. That pretty much summed up how the day was going for Storm, though.

Believe it or not, things got worse. In the 6th the Falcons were hitting it all over the field. No errors. Just solid hits. It got so bad that Al eventually looked at third and said, “Jeff, you want to try.” The inning eventually ended after the Falcons sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10. Things didn’t get much better in the seventh. The game had to stop because the Falcons had hit all the balls out of the park. This left Storm with one question: “will Mike come out of retirement?”

It was definitely a day to forget for Storm.

  1. Hey, when you're batting 10th in a game like that, we bottom liners only get 3 at bats :)
