From my perch in the stands, the real story was the Storm’s absolute refusal to go quietly into the night. It all started at the top of the lineup with Mills, who apparently decided that getting out was against his personal philosophy. Mills went a flawless 4-for-4 with a walk, practically setting up a permanent residence on the basepaths and scoring three times.
But the undisputed showstopper was Duran Folks, you don't see this every day, most days, but not everyday. Spray single-handedly reconstructed the entire baseball glossary by hitting for the cycle. Single? Check. Double? Check. Triple? Check. Over-the-fence launch? You bet. He drove in three runs and left the Falcons' outfielders looking like they needed an oxygen tank and a map. Clean-up hitter Bob Peppler joined the party too, raking at a .750 clip and smashing a triple of his own to keep the offensive fireworks booming.
The absolute peak of the chaos came in the top of the 6th. Trailing behind, the Storm bats suddenly caught lightning in a bottle, exploding for a massive five-run frame that briefly threatened to tear the stadium roof off, if of course it had one.
Sure, the Falcons ultimately out-slugged us to take the win, but the Storm proved they have plenty of thunder left in the tank.
