Storm stumbles in second game

Captain Underpants was sorely missed as Batting Practice Thomas lived up to the nickname and Storm’s perfect season was soiled.

The game was very merciful as each of the four frames found both teams either mercying the other or having the sixth run on base when the third out was recorded. Of the eight possible mercy half innings, three ended in mercies, one ended with the potential mercy run being recorded out at the plate and another ended with the mercy runs on second and third. Ironically, once the mercy rule was lifted, neither team got near the mercy again.

This game featured one of the new rules in action. With Storm attempting to come from behind again (their favorite position to be in this season it seems), they managed to tie the game in the top of the seventh. With the go ahead run on third, and time running out, The Crew decided to practically roll the first pitch to Jeff and then threw the second pitch behind him. At this point, Storm decided to declare the final out of the inning (new rule in action) and try to play for the tie. The Crew knew that time was of the essence, and their batters each took the first two strikes before swinging to try to elongate the inning and stretch it beyond the time limit. A few balls that squeaked through that could have been outs led to the Crew being able to put the final run across and make the time issue null in void.  An exciting finish to a high scoring game.

Cycle Watch: Duran ran himself out of a possible cycle as he turned a single into an oh my groin hurts double, only to watch Lance launch the next pitch over the wall wasting his effort. He never ended up hitting the home run either, so it didn't matter. Lance himself needed the triple to complete his cycle.

Injury Report: Not sure who had Craig in the pool (Ken and Greg took themselves out of the running by signing out early), but Craig was the first Storm player to go down with an injury. He hit the ground hard at first base an a play that included an errant throw, so at first Storm players thought he was hit in the head. It ended up being a muscle issue in his leg. He is currently day to day, but could retroactively be added to the 15 day IL to clear a roster spot.
