The game didn’t start the way Storm would have liked. The
Crew scored four in the top of the first, and Storm was only able to recoup
half the runs. Each team put up goose eggs in the second and Storm remembered
how to hit in the third. Mills hit a run of the Mill(s) double followed by Joey
blasting his first home run of the season. Duran then hit his first (Han) solo
of the year, which would be important for his own statline later in the game.
Storm kept chipping their way through the order and scored five to take the
lead. The fourth was strong for Storm on both sides of the ball as they blanked
The Crew and scored four more as Mills hit his first triple of the season.
Storm took a 10-5 lead into the fifth but gave up seven runs
to fall behind. Fortunately, Storm didn’t let it get them down. With the mercy
rule firmly behind them, Storm stormed through their order and then some to put
up a massive nine runs. Duran picked up his first triple of the season, and
Storm managed to keep the ball in the park while adding up the runs.
The Crew was still in it, trailing by four with the top of
the order up. However, Storm closed the door allowing only one run to hold on
to win the first game of the season.
