Storm beats Surge in a game that had many strange decisions.

In the first inning, Craig had a strange time rounding the bases. He should have stopped at second, but decided to try to stretch it for a triple. The ball was thrown away. Craig walked part of the way down the third base line, then stopped and turned, as if to go back to 3rd, but since nobody from Surge was in any hurry to pick up the ball, he turned back around and basically walked home. It was a confusing play, but more confusing plays would follow.

In the 2nd, Dave smacked a ball off the fence in centre field, but is apparently back in “I need a courtesy runner form” as he stopped at first base. Joey and Bob both smacked home run outs that were well over the fence and seemed to be seeing who could hit the farthest out.

In the 3rd, it was the defense that got a little interesting. With runners on 1st and 2nd a ground ball was hit to the pitcher. Al decided to try to go 2nd to 1st for the double play, when it would have been easier to go 3rd to 2nd. Bob thought Sab had gotten off the hook too easily, so when the next ball was grounded to 2nd, Bob could have tried for a double play to end the inning, but instead threw the ball home to try to get Sab. This shocked everyone, including Brian who was catching, because he wasn’t yet at the plate to make the catch.

In the 4th there was another strange play. Bob made a great over the shoulder catch going back from shortstop, and Surge’s runner had gone almost all the way to 2nd, so Bob spun to throw to 1st, but as he did, he slipped and fell. He later claimed that he fell on the streak of sweat left by Craig’s diving catch attempt earlier in the inning.

In the 5th it was Surge that had a strange decision. With Sab on 3rd, Spencer hit a deep fly ball to right field. Sab had wandered off 3rd base and when the ball was caught he slowly sauntered back to 3rd. Spencer turned around in astonishment that Sab had not scored. Sab admitted that he had “f---ed up.” Surge was so frustrated by this play that they decided to call the game after the 5th.

Amidst all the strangeness, Storm scored at least three runs in every inning and won 24-5.
