Corey Hart might wear his sunglasses at night, but apparently Jeff doesn’t wear his sunglasses on sunny Saturday afternoons. A pop fly slightly behind second that he appeared to be tracking he lost in the sun and ducked for cover instead of trying to catch it. This aided Triple Play to a six run first.
Storm would struggle to score for most of the game. In the top of the fourth, they scored five and drew to within one run. But… in the bottom of the fourth, they gave four back. They never recovered from that and lost.
It wasn’t an ideal ending to the tournament.
Triple Play 20 - StormCrushers 10
For clarity sake, Triple Play never refused to supply a catcher. (A few players were upset at the idea of having to supply a catcher, as in a previous game last year between these two teams, the Storm had actually refused to supply us with a catcher when we were at 9 players for the regular season game. The game meant something to the Storm in their standings with the A’s). Just as this Tournament Championship game meant something. The proposal being discussed at the time during the meeting at the plate was Triple Play would supply the catcher but not make any plays. We didn’t feel it would be right for us to put our “catcher” in a tough position should a play be made/not made that could potentially decide the championship game. In other words we were willing to meet half way for a fair competitive game. Granted, there were some comments from players suggesting a forfeit but that was NOT what was being discussed between the two team reps at the meeting at home plate. The Storm then did what they continued to do and pick up players along the way to ensure the championship game was able to be played.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate that this situation started a good competitive Finals game. It was a great game between two teams. The weekend was a great weekend for ball.
